Good morning! This is blog post #5 in a series on braided jute rugs and home decorating.
Today’s focus is on area rug DOs and DON’Ts, and we’ll also show you the Coffee braided rugs and some great coordinating items.

As we mentioned in the last post, you can use an area rug as an “anchor” to bring together different elements in a room. But consider the size of the rug in relation to the size of the room. You probably wouldn’t want to place a small rug under a coffee table when you could place a larger rug under a coffee table, sofa and ottoman, pulling together an entire seating arrangement. (Our braided rugs are available in oval and rectangular shapes, from 20″x30″ all the way to 8’x10′.)
Also consider the texture and pattern of the rugs you’re using. If you already have a lot of textures and patterns, or “active” design elements in a room, a solid rug may add a calming element to level it out. Alternately, if the room is decorated in more of a minimalist style containing few colors and textures, a bright and patterned rug might be just the right finishing touch.
And don’t be afraid to mix patterns and textures! You might choose a rug with a pattern that is dramatically different in scale than the other textures and patterns surrounding it.

Last, consider function. Is the rug purely for decoration or does it also need to be sturdy and stain-resistant?
