4 mixed prints we dare you to try

Today we’re exploring how mixed prints can modernize even the most traditional country decor themes, and how you don’t have to completely redesign a space in order to transform it.

When it comes to home decor, it’s safe to say we’re in the vintage camp. You won’t find a lot of funky squiggles and abstract geometric shapes here, and if you’re reading this, that’s probably just fine with you. But that doesn’t mean we’re behind the times. Even the most traditional country decor themes can rely on daring elements and boldly coordinated mixed prints.

The key to mixing your prints

  • * One print should be more simple and subtle, and the other print can be a littler rowdier.
  • * Match colors, not prints
  • * Coordinate prints with different size scales
  • * A single stripe, or simply striped pattern can be treated as a solid, or neutral pattern

Here are some ways you can blend patterns and incorporate mixed prints into some of our favorite country decor collections:

Grain Stripe with Summerville

The single stripe in our Grain Stripe collection offers a simple design that’s easy to mix with other prints, like a plaid or even a differently patterned stripe. It’s the coordinating color palette that brings it all together.

Blackstone cotton braided rugs with Blackstone cotton valance

These two coordinating prints are actually made for each other, so perhaps they’re not really that daring? But the black and tans do make a bold statement, and as mentioned above, the different scales of the plaid patterns are what adds character.

Earth tones are some of the easiest to coordinate because they don’t have to be a perfect match to look good. That’s why country braided rugs are so popular. You have warmth, charm, comfort, and they coordinate well with a variety of country patterns. Just add burlap!

Candlewicking florals + Mineral Stripe

Florals + Stripes = LOVE. This is probably my favorite way to mix prints. You can really get creative and put a modern twist on traditional patterns. And the florals in our Candlewicking collection are subtle and easily coordinate with a variety of earthy tones.

Fall fun on Pinterest

Hello!
There’s finally a nip in the air (edit: a short-lived one as it’s going to be back in the 80s this weekend!) and we’re getting excited for the first official day of fall (even though we broke out the decorative gourds on August 31).
Pinterest, as you know, is a great place to get inspiration for fall and harvest themes, and today we’re sharing five fun ways you can easily incorporate the season into your existing decor. Check out our Pinterest Fall/Thanksgiving board for more great ideas!
Fill your candle glass, lanterns and bowl fillers with autumny things like wheat, corn kernels, hazel nuts, acorns, berries…even candy corn!

Fill your mason jars with arrangements of fall leaves (real or fake!) and wrap them with burlap or red and gold ribbons.
Jute and flower tied glass bottles

Mason jars in chicken wire basket

Use that vintage scale to display nuts, berries, corn or fall floral arrangements.
Harper’s Scale

Two-sided red scale clock

Use your bottle box or utensil holder to arrange fall flowers like golden rods and chrysanthemums.

And of course, rusty buckets, watering cans and planters are great for showing off those gourds and fall flower arrangements.
We have so many bucketsMilk cans, too.

Use florals to liven up your candles, walls, tabletops and more. Pinterest has some really cool floral displays on ladders, pallets and window shutters!

Bonus tip: white pumpkins continue to be a popular decorative element this fall! And throwing in a splash of turquoise adds a lovely contrast to the warm autumn shades.
And we now have burlap ribbon spools and burlap letters for even more DIY fun!
